Johnston council hears fire, police and public works reports; police department has two vacancies

Councilman Berry reported 883 dispatched calls since the last meeting, including 650 property checks, and said the Police Department has two vacant positions it is actively seeking to fill.
Councilman Felder reported the leaf machine remains out of service but the chipper is working, which has allowed Public Works to make progress on limb removal. Councilman Burton also noted two street lights are out in his ward and suggested the council maintain a monthly spreadsheet showing the status of nuisance-ordinance letters.
Councilman Berry raised concerns about the detrimental effects of some social media entries and negative comments regarding the town's 'no turn on red' signs. Mayor Holmes thanked the Johnston Development Board for the Peach Blossom Festival, complimented the new mural downtown, and thanked staff including Roger LeDuc and Chief Perry for their efforts.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous motion to adjourn at 7:40 p.m.
