Atlantic Beach added to National Register of Historic Places

Interim Town Manager Linda Cheatham announced at the Feb. 3 council meeting that the town of Atlantic Beach was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on Jan. 22, 2025. The announcement drew applause from the meeting and staff said a press release will be released the following day.
Cheatham acknowledged local preservation volunteers and Horry County preservation officials who assisted with the nomination. "We’ll be sending out a press release tomorrow," she said, and thanked Pat Mallett and Sue Platt for their support during the nomination process.
The council did not take any formal action on the designation at the meeting; staff noted the designation is now official and will be followed by outreach and publicity from the town.
