Johnston council approves minutes and financials, hears Unity Fest praise and department updates

The Johnston Town Council unanimously approved the Feb. 10 meeting minutes and the February 2025 financial report during its regular meeting on March 10.
Councilman Felder moved to approve the Feb. 10 minutes, seconded by Councilman Miller; Councilman Burton moved to approve the February financial report, seconded by Councilman Nicholson. Both motions passed unanimously as recorded in the minutes.
During the public comment period Annette Holloway thanked the town for its support of her Unity Day event and asked about council protocols; Mayor Holmes replied that "the town follows Robert's Rules of Order." Councilman Berry later praised the Unity Fest turnout, saying it drew more people than the prior year.
Committee reports provided operational updates: Councilman Burton reported nine fire calls and two drills since the last meeting; Councilman Berry reported 356 dispatched calls and stated the Police Department will be at full strength as of March 31. Councilman Felder said the leaf machine is still down and Public Works remains one employee short. Councilmen Berry and Burton raised concerns that garbage pickup personnel have been leaving carts in driveways and streets after service; Mayor Holmes said he would raise the issue with the contractor.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous adjournment at 7:10 p.m.; the minutes were submitted by Municipal Clerk Angel Melton.
