Johnston council approves MLK Unity Day event and $500 contribution

The Johnston Town Council unanimously approved a request to hold an MLK Unity Day in January 2025 and voted to contribute $500 toward the MLK Unity Fest during its Dec. 9 meeting.
The MLK Unity Day request was made by resident Annette Holloway and the motion to approve the event was moved by Councilman Miller and seconded by Councilman Nicholson; council recorded the motion as passing unanimously. Later in the meeting, Councilman Burton moved, and Councilman Felder seconded, a motion to contribute $500 to the MLK Unity Fest; that motion also passed unanimously.
Council also approved the Nov. 12, 2024 meeting minutes (motion by Councilman Felder, seconded by Councilman Nicholson) and the November 2024 financial report (motion by Councilman Nicholson, seconded by Councilman Berry); both motions were recorded as passing unanimously.
The minutes do not show contested debate on any of these motions. The record notes that Councilman Berry participated in votes recorded later in the minutes though he is not named in the meeting's initial attendance list.
