Henderson schedules utility director interviews, plans demolitions, and discusses traffic-signal replacements

During the 'Any Other Business' portion of the May 14 meeting, Mayor Terry F. Bell announced interviews for the Utility Director position set for May 21; the Mayor, City Recorder Jim E. Building Official Brent Beshires said he will send notices to homeowners about properties requiring repair or demolition; letters will be mailed the following day, a meeting with owners is scheduled for June 30, and the city may place demolition liens on properties the city must demolish.
Fire Chief Doug Acred recognized Captain Luke Foster for leading data collection and grant-writing efforts; Chief Acred reported two grants totaling approximately $80,000 secured for the department.
Mayor Bell raised the condition of overhead flashing lights on Highway 45 approaching State Route 100; a review by Jeff McEarl indicated lights are aged (about 25 years) and in poor condition. Estimated per-light replacement cost is about $2,346, and total replacement could be between $15,000 and $20,000. Recorder Garland cautioned that this unplanned expense may deplete the traffic-signal maintenance line before June 2027. The board approved moving forward with the replacements; Ald. Mark A. Barber moved the action and Ald. Donna R. Butler seconded.
Ald. Keith Smith asked Police Chief Gary Davidson about rifle orders; Chief Davidson said the rifles have been ordered, most accessories have arrived, and delivery lead time is 60–90 days. Ald. Smith also asked about event tents and applying the city logo; Mayor Bell said tents will be sent to Alliance for logo application once received.
