Committee approves continued participation in Missouri GEMT program despite fee changes

Staff explained that GEMT changed its fee/collection structure: historically the administrative/processing costs were taken as a 15% charge; under the amended agreement GEMT will apply a 12% fee for fee-for-service runs and a 9% collection for managed-care organization reimbursements (Medicaid/managed Medicare). The chief said the change does not prompt withdrawal from the program; differences in the fee structure may be a wash once actual collections are tallied, but staff cannot yet project the net fiscal impact until they receive collection data under the new percentages. "We just know that we're continuing with the program, and we will get reimbursed for the calls," the fire chief said.
The committee moved and seconded a motion to continue participation for 2025 and to authorize the updated fee schedules in the amended agreement. The motion passed on roll call with all members present voting yes.
Next step: staff will monitor collections under the new GEMT fee structure and report fiscal impacts to the committee as data become available.
