County engineer outlines roadwork schedule, speed-zone adjustments and bridge grant results

County roads staff updated supervisors on several transportation items. Staff said operators completed many road approaches after a recent train derailment and will finish cleanup by the end of the week. The county has updated many speed-limit signs to 55 mph; two locations remain to be reviewed (River Road Golf Course Road and a stretch east of Algona) and staff plans to bring a formal resolution for board action next week.
Staff also reported that slurry leveling crews will move onto targeted roads later in the week and that hot-mix asphalt work is scheduled to begin next week on specified segments. Two bridge projects are included in a competitive grant's larger list but did not reach the final selection; if awarded the grant would replace bridges on R14 and B54.
The county will relocate speed-feedback signage and continue maintenance and inspections. The engineer noted several construction and preconstruction meetings scheduled for the coming days and asked supervisors to confirm logistical participation.
