The board approved a memorandum of understanding to align deputies’ vacation accrual with the county handbook so deputies hired under the union agreement receive comparable early vacation benefits. A department representative said the change affects one deputy currently at six months of service and that the MOU brings that position into parity with other county employees.
"This basically is just to bring the contract with the deputies up to speed to, rest of the employees in the county," the staff presenter said while explaining the requested language to add an early accrual provision.
Board members discussed the union context and whether updates of this type should proceed through formal union negotiations; staff said the deputies' union would still be asked to sign the document and that the county will file the signed MOU with the auditor's office. The board approved the MOU on a recorded roll-call vote.
