Chaffee council hears updates on security, fire budget, court transfer and potential grant

Police Chief Sullivan recommended adding a door to the front end of the City Hall hallway and improving the service desk at the Collector's office to limit public access to employee areas; the council asked Lee to obtain quotes for the work. Fire Chief Glency said the Fire Department has been rearranging budget line items after an officers' meeting to better reflect expected expenditures for the coming year.
The City Administrator said he is researching a walking-paths grant that would require a 20 percent local match and will provide more information to the council as research continues. The City Attorney reported progress toward transferring the municipal court to Scott County but said a list of problem logs and action items must be resolved before the transfer can be completed.
Public Works Director Shannon Hendrix raised concerns about hourly pay rates for some Public Works employees, citing tenure and licenses; council discussion included the need to ensure trained operators for any new equipment. The meeting adjourned after the administrative updates.
