The Chaffee City Council voted Feb. 2 to cancel its snow-removal contract with C&C Lawns and to buy a new plow and spreader for the Public Works department.
Ron Davis moved to cancel the snow-removal contract, and Steve Milz seconded the motion; the council polled and a majority present voted to end the agreement. Council members then approved purchasing a plow and spreader after Lee asked whether the city should purchase equipment following the contract cancellation. Steve Milz moved to approve the purchase and Danny Finley seconded; the motion passed with all present in favor.
Council members framed the change as a response to unsatisfactory work from the contractor. Mayor Pro-Tem Eric Seyer thanked Public Works for extra street clean-up and directed staff to pursue local procurement options. The council asked Lee to solicit quotes for construction and asked staff to investigate warranties for the new equipment.
Council member Steve Milz asked that the city be selective about who operates the new plow equipment and requested proper training for operators; council directed staff to follow up on that concern before deployment.
The decisions shift winter maintenance responsibilities from an external contractor to city-owned equipment and internal operators; city officials said they will return with cost, warranty and training details as procurement moves forward. The council took the actions during its regular meeting at City Hall and by Zoom.
