Chaffee council hears fire-truck repair concerns, reinstates firefighter and tables snow-removal bid

At the Dec. 15 City of Chaffee council meeting, Fire Chief Sam Glency reported that the department’s second fire truck, recently returned from work by Sentinel, required additional repairs beyond the original quote to pass the pump inspection. Chief Glency said the department is still awaiting the invoice for the additional work; council members suggested reviewing truck-maintenance and preventative-maintenance budgets going forward.
During the same discussion Fire Chief Glency requested reinstatement of Colby Stratton to the Fire Department. Council member Steve Milz moved to reinstate Stratton; Ron Davis seconded the motion and all present voted in favor.
Other public-service updates included an appearance by Phil Walls, a representative of the Small Business Administration, who asked the council to distribute information to constituents about SBA claims available for damages sustained in March and April storms earlier in the year. Police Chief Sullivan told the council he needs to consult with the City Attorney on ordinances regarding kratom and will return with more information at a future meeting.
City Administrator Lee Horton updated the council on several items: the planned BNSF transformer transport through the city had been postponed until after the new year though a certificate of insurance had been received; an appraisal had been commissioned for property at 204 Helen; and MODOT’s resurfacing of Route A was moved to January 2027 with an estimated cost adjusted to $59,830.05, for which the council was told an ordinance would be required. One snow-removal estimate from C&C Lawns was presented and discussion followed; the council tabled the award until additional bids are received.
Park Department news came from Council member Andy Sadler, who said new basketball goals had arrived and youth camps had run successfully; staff are compiling a repairs list for the coming year.
The council approved routine bills (including an MFA Oil invoice for $1,208.86) and later moved to a closed personnel session.
