Police chief asks Chaffee council to draft ordinance regulating kratom

Chaffee, Mo. — Police Chief Sullivan told the City Council on Dec. 1 that he had provided information about the substance kratom and referenced the City of Alton’s standing ordinance as an example for regulation. Following discussion, Councilman Steve Milz moved that the City Attorney draft a similar ordinance; Tony Enderle seconded the motion and the council approved it unanimously.
Chief Sullivan also reported that the police department obtained quotes from ESI for City Hall camera replacements and presented departmental performance reviews described in the minutes as unanimously satisfactory. The minutes record those presentations immediately before the kratom item.
The council’s action directs the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance draft. The minutes do not include the draft text or a timeline for introduction of the proposed kratom ordinance.
