Council hears Cedar-Johnson project plans, tables construction award and accepts tree-felling quote

The West Branch City Council opened and closed a public hearing March 17 on plans, specifications and the form of contract for the Cedar-Johnson Road Reconstruction Project; no members of the public spoke.
Later in the meeting the council accepted a quote for tree felling associated with the project (Resolution 2025-33). Council member Colton Miller questioned differences among the three company bids; Eric Gould of Veenstra & Kimm confirmed the low bidder understands the work requirements.
Council then considered awarding the construction contract but Mayor Pro Tem Tom Dean suggested tabling the award pending direction from the City Attorney, who was on vacation. The council voted to TABLE Resolution 2025-34 and agreed to revisit the contract at the April 7 meeting.
City Engineer Dave Schechinger told the council Neuzil & Son’s will begin required tree cutting along Cedar-Johnson Road before an April 1 deadline due to bat habitat restrictions and that temporary easements had been delivered to affected property owners. The engineer also reported Meadows Part 6 grading and ongoing utility work.
The council’s tabling preserves time for legal review before final contract approval and leaves project bidding and scheduling subject to attorney guidance and the April meeting timeline.
