Rad Studios, a youth-focused performing-arts organization founded in 2019, produces multiple seasonal shows for young performers and families and is currently staging the musical "Rainbow Fish," company leaders said on Cape Chronicle.
Rob Davis, Rad Studios' board director and president, said the group began after a previous studio eliminated its theater work and that the company has produced youth-focused productions and theater-for-young-audiences shows. "We do 6 shows a year, 3 youth, and 3 theater for young audiences," he said. Davis added that the group survived early COVID-era challenges with community partnerships and continued outreach.
Assistant director Ashley Hardy said the current show is a full musical and described the cast's experience learning choreography and stagecraft. The company stages productions at the Generational Center (the youth center behind Christchurch on Burling Street) and typically casts youth ages 8–18; Davis said the company generally does not turn away actors who meet the season-age criteria.
Davis said Rad Studios is expanding its technical-education opportunities for backstage roles and encouraged parents to reach out if youth are interested in tech work. He also noted the company's outreach at community events (including a presence at Cape Anime) and said Facebook and a landing page provide schedules and contact information.
