Elberta planning commission raises performance concerns about consultant; council may seek legal counsel

Ryan Fiebing, reporting for the Planning Commission, told the council the commission is finalizing edits to the draft master plan but has experienced delays and frustrations related to the performance of consultant Beckett & Raeder on the contracted work.
Fiebing said the Planning Commission made a motion to authorize President Jennifer Wilkins to speak directly with higher-level personnel at Beckett & Raeder to resolve the issues. The commission also discussed the possibility of seeking legal counsel if performance problems persist.
Wilkins reported the commission's direction to escalate the matter; the council discussed the report but did not record a separate council-level motion to retain counsel at the Aug. 15 meeting. Council members indicated interest in resolving the contract performance problems so the master plan work can proceed.
Separately, Jon Ottinger’s written Betsie Valley Trail report was reviewed and Ottinger indicated his desire to step down from the committee; Wilkins said an interested person is in the process of applying to represent Elberta on that committee.
