Edmore council tables decision on Old Fence Rider Museum donation, forms review committee

Representatives of the Old Fence Rider Museum told the council Oct. 14 that the museum board planned to dissolve the nonprofit and hoped the village could accept the museum’s artifacts.
Lon Leonard addressed the council on behalf of the board; other attendees included Julie Davis, Karen Calcutt and Sherri Miel. Council members discussed legal constraints — items must transfer to another 501(c)(3) — and said they would seek legal advice. The board said one interested party is already identified but that the items would likely move to Florida; councilmembers suggested contacting Central Michigan University to explore keeping items in the region.
The council formed an Old Fence Rider Museum Committee (Guild, Pierce, Burr and Manager Mark Borden) and voted to table consideration of the donation until the November meeting to allow legal review and follow-up with potential recipients.
