Edmore council approves land division for Dollar General site, buys trailer generator and moves $500,000 into CDs

At its Sept. 9 meeting the Edmore Village Council approved a land division enabling a Dollar General purchase, granted a homecoming parade permit, renewed a business license, authorized a $45,000 trailer-mounted generator purchase, and voted to move $500,000 into two 7-month CDs at Commercial Bank.
The Edmore Village Council on Sept. 9 approved a series of motions that clear the way for local development, equipment purchases and short-term investments.
Council accepted a land-division application for Edmore Storage at 1459 E. Main St., enabling a pending purchase agreement with Dollar General. McParland moved to accept the land-division request; the motion was supported and approved by roll call vote 7-0 (Colburn, Griswold, Guild, McParland, Moore, Pierce, Burr).
The council also approved a special-event and parade permit for Montabella High School’s homecoming on Oct. 4, 2024, and unanimously renewed the KISA Enterprises “Pinnacle” business registration. A proposal to add a business listing to the village website was tabled, as was a Parks and Recreation recommendation on a new merry-go-round pending grant planning.
On equipment, the council debated a permanent versus trailer-mounted generator for the Department of Public Works. Citing flexibility, the council on motion by McParland and seconded by Colburn authorized purchasing a trailer-mounted generator at the quoted budget price of $45,000; members acknowledged concern that moving a trailer on-site for outages could temporarily leave the DPW building without backup and said they will evaluate how to use the existing generator.
On short-term investments, the council considered a memo recommending placement of $500,000 into certificates of deposit. Guild moved to place $250,000 from the General Fund and $250,000 from Major and Local Streets into two separate CDs at Commercial Bank (quoted 7-month CDs at 4.80% with an APY of 4.887%) and to designate Tracy Sanchez and Treasurer Shirley Drain as signers; the motion passed by roll call 7-0.
The meeting opened with a police report noting 129 patrol hours and two malicious-destruction investigations involving vehicle-window damage; investigations remain ongoing. Treasurer Shirley Drain reported the August books were closed and balanced and all ELF loans current. The council adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
