At its Aug. 11 meeting, the City of Hamilton Park Board was briefed on outreach programs available from the Missouri Department of Conservation, guest Bob Hughes said.
Hughes told the board the department offers three tiers of community assistance — including funding, labor for local projects and child- and library-focused education programs — and that Hamilton would likely qualify for the 50% funding tier. He said the department also runs a tree program, but participation would require the city to adopt a tree ordinance.
Hughes identified Alec Lanter as the recreation staff member who coordinates recreational programs; board member Cole Crawford said he will invite Lanter to a future meeting to discuss how the department's offerings could align with local projects. Hughes also noted the Union Sportsman Alliance as a potential source of volunteer labor and construction materials for park projects such as gazebos.
Board members did not take formal action on the outreach items at the meeting; the briefing closed with a plan for staff or a board member to follow up with a meeting invitation to discuss implementation details.
