Elberta council agrees to partner with Labor Heritage Center, reappoints two planning commissioners

At its Nov. 21 meeting, the Elberta Village Council agreed to be listed as a partner with the Elberta Labor Heritage Center (ELHC) as the ELHC forms a Rural Readiness team to pursue funding for local projects.
Arlene Sweeting, representing the Elberta Labor Heritage Center, asked that the village designate a council representative or designee to assist with finding funding and coordinating projects. President Jennifer Wilkins verbally agreed the village could be listed as a partner and the ELHC will keep the council informed about projects.
The council reappointed Ryan Fiebing to a one-year term on the Planning Commission and Michael Murphy to a three-year term; both motions passed unanimously. Planning Commission chair Ryan Fiebing reported that Barb Reichert gave a presentation on accessory dwelling units, and the council was told draft zoning-ordinance changes supporting ADUs are expected by the end of the year.
Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Brett McGregor reported a parks plan is ready for viewing with a public hearing scheduled for Dec. 19; the draft plan includes land provisionally identified for acquisition by the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy.
The meeting also included reports from county and other local bodies, and routine staff updates. The council adjourned at 8:37 p.m.
