Natural-resources staff told the board that the Minnesota Department of Agriculture awarded Hubbard County an $11,783 grant to control brown knapweed in the northeastern part of the county.

The county requested contractor quotes for the chemical application portion of the work; the lowest chemical quote presented was $9,945.96 from Nutrien out of Kasota, Minnesota.
Commissioners asked about timing and method; staff advised that spraying should be completed before the plants bloom and seed (recommended by August 1 for best effect). A commissioner asked whether brown knapweed is more aggressive than spotted knapweed; staff replied it can be more problematic and recommended early treatment.
The board voted to accept the grant and authorize staff to proceed with control work and contract awards consistent with the grant conditions.
