Village Manager Mark Borden told the council that the sewer lagoons were updated in 2012, including a full cover on the primary lagoon, but a recent inspection found the internal valves highly corroded and the concrete valve structures deteriorating. Borden said the village will likely need to spend "$100,000 or more" to address the problem but first wants independent engineering opinions to confirm the scope and cause before pursuing repairs.
Councilmember Kanine moved to authorize up to $4,000 for two quotes or opinions from consultants; the motion, supported by McParland, passed by roll-call vote 7-0. The authorization funds are for investigative quotes only, not for repair work. The council asked staff to report back with written engineering recommendations and cost estimates once the quotes and assessments are complete.
The action directs a near-term technical review; a separate repair contract or funding decision will be needed if consultants confirm large-scale work and cost estimates.
