Edmore council approves local tasting-room permit, appoints trustee and authorizes ARPA contracts

At its Dec. 9 meeting the Edmore Village Council approved a local application for a tasting-room permit for Nate and Jake's Eatery, appointed Carla McParland to a two-year trustee seat, authorized staff to enter ARPA-funded water and sewer contracts, and approved several routine motions including staff bonuses and a museum donation.
The Edmore Village Council at its regular meeting on Dec. 9, 2024, approved a series of administrative and regulatory actions including a local step needed for a Tasting Room Permit, an appointment to the council and authorization for staff to use remaining ARPA funds on water and sewer work.
Nate Holmgard spoke to the council about plans for Nate and Jake's Eatery, a small operation at 526 E. Main St. that would produce in-house wines and meads and operate a tasting room. The council voted to accept the local application required by the state for a Tasting Room Permit; the roll-call vote recorded yes from Colburn, Griswold, Kanine, Moore and Guild, with Trustee Cristina Pierce absent.
The council also voted to appoint Carla McParland to fill a two-year trustee vacancy. The motion to appoint McParland passed on a roll-call vote with the same recorded members voting yes and one absence. In other personnel and administration business, the council approved a motion to remove outgoing President Gloria Burr as a signatory on village bank accounts and add President Chet Guild as a signatory.
Council members voted to accept a donation from the Old Fence Rider Museum and approved a $225 Christmas bonus for each village staff member. The board set its 2025 meeting dates for Monday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Curtis Building.
In a motion related to infrastructure funding, the council authorized staff to enter into contracts by Dec. 31, 2024, for remaining ARPA funds to address necessary water and sewer improvements. That motion also passed by roll call (yes: Colburn, Griswold, Kanine, Moore, Guild; Pierce absent).
The meeting opened with roll call and approval of the agenda and included departmental reports from the village manager and the Montcalm County deputy assigned to Edmore. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
