The City Council voted to adopt the 2026 National Electric Code with local amendments recommended by staff to align Dripping Springs with the state's adoption and related licensing changes effective Sept. 1, 2026.
Staff explained electricians and contractors are required to follow the state-adopted code; updating the city’s code prevents conflicts between local enforcement and state licensing. Interim Building Official BJ Bealer said staff used North Central Texas Council of Governments amendments as a baseline and removed items that exceed local practice, keeping the local amendment practical and consistent with industry standards.
Council moved and approved the ordinance with an effective date of Sept. 1, 2026 to match the state schedule.
Staff said the amendments aim to reduce conflicts for licensed electricians and to ensure inspectors and contractors rely on the same standards when the state’s updated code becomes enforceable.
