Council approves waiver to allow alcohol sales at Johnson County Fair

The Gardner City Council approved a request to waive the city’s 200‑foot distance limitation so that the Abdallah Shriners and the Johnson County Fair Association may sell alcoholic liquor at the Johnson County Fair, scheduled for July 24–August 1, 2026 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, 136 East Washington Street. Staff noted the Abdallah Shriners and the fair association had obtained temporary permits from the Kansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Division and that the council vote was limited to the local distance waiver.
A motion to approve the waiver was made and seconded; the council approved the request by voice vote. Staff said the waiver applies only to the fair dates identified and that the permit process with state regulators remains a separate requirement.
