Kingstree council authorizes sale of 4.99-acre former dump to adjacent landowners for $5,000

The Kingstree Town Council voted unanimously Aug. 27 to authorize the sale of a 4.99-acre parcel (parcel number 11-027-003) at the end of McFarland Street to four adjacent landowners for $1,000 per acre, a total of $5,000.
Town Manager Kippton W. Coker presented the offer, saying the parcel — formerly the town dump — is landlocked, lacks public access and lies in a flood plain. The buyers proposed to accept the property "as-is," relieve the town of future liability, and assume all costs to transfer a General Warranty Deed and any associated liabilities; the offer does not require soil testing.
Alan Chandler, speaking on behalf of adjacent landowners Ira V. Barrineau Jr., Clark M. Barrineau, Dylan L. Coker and Jodi Floyd, told the council the site is an old dumping area and "it is unknown what may be buried there," and said the property therefore holds value primarily to surrounding landowners.
Councilmember Stan Williamson moved to authorize the Town Manager to enter into the sale agreement; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Derek Fitts and carried unanimously. The meeting record lists Mayor Darren Tisdale and councilmembers Frankie D. White, Derek Fitts, C.M. (Bubba) Hammet Jr., Chris Williams and Stan Williamson as present (Michelle Butterworth was absent).
