Town Manager Kippton W. Coker updated the council on several funding and project developments during the Sept. 15 meeting.
Coker said the state-approved School Resource Officer (SRO) grant will provide roughly $800,000 to fund four police officers: two assigned to Kingstree High School and two to Anderson Primary. He described this as a state grant award and did not provide contract or start-date specifics during the meeting.
On capital projects, Coker said the state had allocated approximately $500,000 for a baseball field project, but the bids received exceeded that amount and some proposals were not properly submitted through the engineering company as instructed. Town staff are discussing reopening the bidding process to address those issues.
Coker also listed recent community events and business openings — a youth day event Aug. 23, the King's Bistro opening Sept. 9, and a busy Kingstree Live — and noted a follow-up meeting with DSM on Sept. 23 to renew permits as the town moves forward with the Upper Branch project. The transcript does not include contract awards, bid amounts beyond the state contribution, or timelines for construction.
