The Harwood City Council on Feb. 3 approved the second reading of Ordinance 2024-04 and voted to issue several building permits, including authorization for mold remediation at the Community Center.
Mayor Blake Hankey opened the meeting and the council completed a public hearing before approving the second reading of Ordinance 2024-04 on a motion by Councilmember Dick Sundberg, seconded by Councilmember Chris Fix. The motion carried with all voting aye.
Community Center Manager Josh Diede and City Auditor Chayla Hansen told the council that mold had been found during repairs and that insurance would cover up to $10,000 of remediation costs. On a motion by Councilmember Chris Higgins, seconded by Chris Fix, the council approved the building permit for the Community Center and authorized up to $3,000 in city responsibility toward remediation.
The council also approved a building permit for 130 Ash Lane (motion by Chris Higgins, seconded by Jamie Nettum) and approved routine consent items including January minutes, bills and the financial report.
The actions were presented as routine motions with unanimous support; the clerk's minutes record the votes as "all in favor voted aye, motion carried." The agenda item summaries did not specify further technical details of Ordinance 2024-04 beyond completion of its second reading.
The council said it would return other matters—including some property and infrastructure items—to future meetings for follow-up.
