"By creating an official archive for the city, it would kind of fill that void," Matthew said, explaining the archive would help manage materials that are no longer in daily use and that staff and community experts could guide digitization and conservation priorities.
Commissioners asked whether the archive employee would be a city employee and about coordination with existing county resources and the Hagan History Center. Matthew said the position would be a city employee and that the proposed working committee would include city departments and invited community experts in archives and conservation.
Commissioners requested additional details and said they would hold the item for further discussion and possible action at the next meeting after coordination with county partners.
