Blythewood council forms Event Safety Task Force to evaluate reopening Doko Meadows Park events

Councilwoman T. Hovis proposed creating a temporary, volunteer Event Safety Task Force to evaluate whether Doko Meadows Park should be reopened for large-scale events. "The task force would be advisory only, meet twice monthly through the spring, and include community members with experience in public safety, emergency management, security planning, public administration, or youth-focused activities," she said.
Council discussed membership size, residency requirements, public meeting rules for ad hoc advisory groups, and the selection process for appointees. Council designated Councilwoman Hovis as the Council representative to the task force. The motion to establish the task force passed unanimously, 5-0.
Council clarified that Doko Meadows Park is not closed but that certain large nighttime events have been suspended; the task force’s role is to evaluate safety and recommend whether and under what conditions large events should resume. Staff will return with candidate recruitment materials and a timeline tied to the task force’s twice-monthly meeting schedule.
