Waterford library to add database access, games, Vox Books and a new logo this spring

Library Director Julie Schaefer told the advisory committee on Feb. 25 that several new services and collections will be available to patrons in the coming weeks.

The Weiss Financial Ratings database will be installed in March and will be accessible both in the library and remotely, Schaefer said. The library also introduced a new board game collection—20 titles so far—to promote what staff described as "screen free entertainment." A Vox Book collection, which pairs page-turning with an integrated audio reader, was also added; circulation for these items will be in-library only and they cannot be returned to other shared-system locations.

Schaufer (sic) presented a sneak preview of a new library logo created by Oakland University students; the library plans an official rollout in March. Staff reported a recent server failure in January that kept services down for two days; staff were instructed to archive older files to external hard drives. To maintain patron service during renovation, the library will borrow a freestanding drop box from the South Lyon Library to place near its front entrance.

The committee also heard that the Southeast Michigan Library Hop will begin in April with passport-style stamps at participating libraries and prize drawings for frequent visitors. Friends of the Library plans a Book It 5K on April 25 as part of a four-run packet, and will provide participants with wrist bands for small items during the event.

The advisory committee accepted routine reports and will revisit any outstanding items at its next meeting on March 25, 2026.
