Farmington City Council appointed Alyson Gay to the Commission on Children, Youth and Families at a special meeting on April 6, 2026, following a series of scheduled interviews for openings on multiple advisory bodies.
The appointment was made by motion of Councilmember Johnna Balk and seconded by Councilmember Maria Taylor. The council voted unanimously, 5-0, to fill the partial term, which expires Dec. 31, 2027. The council members present were Mayor Joe LaRussa; Mayor Pro-Tem Johnna Balk; and Councilmembers Kevin Parkins, Steve Schneemann and Maria Taylor.
The special meeting began at 5:47 p.m. and included interviews scheduled for applicants to the Beautification Commission, Historical Commission and the Commission on Children, Youth and Families. Applicants listed on the agenda included Lena Stewart (Historical), Annalee Voigtman (Beautification and/or Children, Youth and Families), Eriana DeKalita-Mull (Beautification), Alyson Gay (Children, Youth and Families), Danielle Mahoney (Historical), Peggy Castine (Historical), and Sarah Holt (Beautification).
Council members and staff reviewed vacancy details provided at the meeting. The Beautification Commission has two vacancies — a partial term expiring June 30, 2027, and a full term expiring June 30, 2029 — and meets at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at Blue Hat Coffee. The Commission on Children, Youth and Families has one alternate vacancy, a partial term expiring Dec. 31, 2027, and meets jointly with Farmington Hills on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The Historical Commission has one full-term vacancy expiring March 31, 2029, and meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.
Councilmembers deferred decisions on the remaining vacancies to allow time for further consideration and for members to explore alternatives such as expanding capacity with alternate positions. No public comment was received during the meeting.
The special session adjourned at 7:18 p.m.
