The Farmington City Council voted unanimously May 4 to approve the 2026 Founders Festival, authorizing event locations, road closures and applications for temporary liquor licenses for the July 16โ6 weekend.
Councilmember Johnna Balk moved to adopt the resolution; Councilmember Maria Taylor seconded and the motion carried 4-0. Festival organizers outlined plans for artisan and craft vendors, food vendors, family-focused programming in Riley Park, children's rides, a beer tent and nonprofit participation, and described a possible return of Touch-a-Truck activities.
Councilmembers discussed parking logistics and coordination with the Farmers Market to minimize disruption to local businesses and residents. The council's approval allows event organizers to proceed with permitting, road-closure coordination and temporary liquor-license applications. There was no formal dissent recorded.
Public commenters during the meeting praised the festival's family-oriented focus and increased nonprofit involvement. The council did not set additional conditions in the motion; event permitting and operational details will be handled by city staff and event organizers ahead of the July dates.
