Henry County R‑I Board approves consent agenda, schedules CSIP update and enters executive session

The Henry County R‑I Board of Education met Thursday, Jan. 14, 2025, at Windsor High School. Board President Jason Heany called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. and a quorum was established.
The board approved the meeting agenda (motion by Jennifer Pipal, second by Scott Swigert) and then approved the consent agenda (motion by Ryan Hoffman, second by Jennifer Pipal). The consent agenda included payment of bills totaling $104,481.27 (check nos. 150404–150471), approval of open minutes from Dec. 12, 2024, adoption of a Purple Star resolution (provisionally approved), and routine financial reports; both motions carried 6-0.
District staff and administrators were available for questions and board reports were noted as compiled in the packet and posted on the district website. Mr. Brad Hunter updated the board on the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP): the CSIP committee postponed its Jan. 6 meeting due to inclement weather and will meet Feb. 10, 2025, to consolidate goals; the board will receive a CSIP update at its Feb. 13, 2025 meeting. Hunter also said the district’s Purple Star application received provisional approval and thanked Shannon Grubb for her contributions. He raised concerns about cooperation among schools in the Kaysinger Conference on certain sports.
Under new business, Hunter provided information about neighboring districts’ tax levies and a proposed tax increase referenced in the packet as "Proposition Greyhounds." The board packet included a frequently asked questions section explaining how property assessments are determined. The item is slated to appear on the April 2025 general election ballot.
The board voted to enter executive session for consideration of personnel matters, citing Missouri Statute 610.021(3). The motion was made by Dr. Jamie Burkhart, seconded by Jennifer Pipal; a roll call recorded six "yes" votes and the motion carried 6-0. The meeting adjourned at 6:24 P.M.
Next steps: the CSIP committee will meet Feb. 10, 2025, the board will receive a CSIP update Feb. 13, 2025, and Proposition Greyhounds will appear on the April 2025 ballot.
