During the July 21 Kingstree Town Council meeting, members approved a personnel resolution, amended the agenda, and tabled a proposed land sale pending further information.
Resolution 2025-06: Councilman C.M. (Bubba) Hammet moved to approve Resolution 2025-06 increasing the town manager’s salary; Councilman Frankie D. White seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Offer to Purchase Town Property: Town Manager Kippton W. Coker presented a $5,000 offer to buy a 4.99-acre town-owned parcel described as the former dumping ground off McFarlin Street. Prospective buyers requested soil testing and certification that the site is free of contaminants. Council members expressed concern about value and who would pay for testing and unanimously voted to table the offer while staff gathers more information.
Agenda amendment: The council approved an amendment to add Dr. Florence Matthews Thomas as Item 11 and the Offer to Purchase Town Property as Item 12 earlier in the meeting.
