Committee member (S1) moved to approve the Tom Farley design "coming in at cost under $12,000 for the flag meditation area." The motion was amended to require review with the town administrator before notifying the contractor; that amended motion passed by voice vote with no objection.
During discussion members identified $5,000 already earmarked from the cemetery perpetual-care fund toward the project and estimated needing roughly another $5,000 to complete the work. Chair (S2) explained the perpetual-care account receives $500 per burial and that the commission also now has a recurring annual appropriation of $10,000 routed through the highway/public-works budget, which could contribute to project costs.
Commissioners asked that Pat oversee consultation with the town administrator to confirm whether the $5,000 earmark and the commission’s annual allotment can cover the final cost or whether a town-warrant request or additional allocation will be needed. Members also asked staff to locate and share the Chester Granite invoice for bench foundations and to confirm delivery before releasing payment.
The final approved motion as read into the record directs review with the town administrator and oversight by Pat before finalizing engagement with the contractor. Commission members said they expect Farley to schedule work in the fall and noted that costs may rise in subsequent years.
