Fairgrove council approves fire department bylaws, signs fire contract clause and completes routine business

The Village of Fairgrove council held its regular meeting on Feb. 3, 2025, and approved a series of administrative and operational items affecting the village’s services and finances. In unanimous roll-call votes (5–0), the council accepted a Holloway quote for the Summit proposal; approved the Volunteer Fire Department’s standard operating guidelines (SOG) and bylaws; voted to sign the Village of Fairgrove Fire Contract containing a 10% clause; and authorized several routine payments and postings.
Harrison moved to approve the fire department SOG and bylaws; Spencer seconded and the motion carried 5–0. Council also approved the Holloway proposal (motion by Sebert; second Harrison) and voted to sign the village’s fire contract that includes a 10% clause (motion by Harrison; second Spencer); council members asked that contract sections be available for review at the next meeting.
Financial items included a motion to pay a fourth-quarter lagoon assessment of $3,500 (Harrison moved; R. Thomas seconded) and approval of a payment to Breathing Air for $1,234.93. The clerk-treasurer’s January check registry was approved by unanimous vote. Council also voted to post Ordinance #38 in the local paper and accepted P. Strasz’s resignation from a planning role; additional hiring and planning commission details were scheduled for upcoming meetings.
The council voted to FOIA Fairgrove Township records relating to the special-assessment charges village residents pay on township taxes for the last five years; R. Thomas made the motion and Sebert seconded. The meeting included routine committee and department reports (police, streets, buildings & grounds) and several items were tabled for further information, including a generator procurement question and a village-hall refresh. The council adjourned at 8:08 p.m.; the budget hearing is scheduled for March 3 and the next regular meeting for March 6, 2025.
