Dennis Buxton was elected president of the Sachem Central School District Board of Education at the board’s reorganizational meeting on July 1, 2026. The nomination, second and voice vote carried; the district clerk will administer the constitutional oath for the president.
Robert Scavo was elected vice president by voice vote after being nominated and seconded. The board also appointed Edith Alacio as district treasurer and Alyssa Hull as deputy treasurer; those motions were made, seconded and approved as part of routine officer appointments and consent agendas.
The temporary chair, Mike Cerny, opened nominations for the president’s post after the meeting called for a temporary chair; the temporary chair appointment was itself approved earlier in the meeting by voice vote.
Newly elected President Dennis Buxton thanked trustees after the vote, saying, "So thank you very much to, my fellow, trustees for confidence. I appreciate it. I really do." The board moved quickly through remaining organizational items, approving multiple consent agendas and routine authorizations by unanimous voice votes or without opposition on the record.
The officer elections set leadership for the 2026–27 official year ending June 30, 2027. The board then proceeded to the superintendent’s report and regular agenda items before adjourning the meeting by motion later in the evening.
