Mayor Ron Kistner told the council he will appoint an HHPD captain and two new officers at the Jan. 27 council meeting. The mayor and council also discussed department staffing and related administrative items during the Jan. 13 sessions.
On first reading the council introduced Ordinance 2594, "An Ordinance to Fix the Salary and Compensation of Members of the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department for the Year 2026," and Ordinance 2596, which amends police-department fees under Chapter 55. Both ordinances were passed on first reading and scheduled for public hearing at the regular meeting on Jan. 27, 2026. Council also approved Ordinance 2593 on second and final reading, revising the salary range for the Director of Communications.
During the consent agenda the council authorized participation by the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department in the Defense Logistics Agency Law Enforcement Support Office (1033) program to request and acquire excess Department of Defense equipment; the consent package passed unanimously. Councilman Bobby Bing remarked on the appointment of the new borough prosecutor, saying the prosecutor position is “a critical one for our community” and that he had confidence the new prosecutor would enforce laws consistently and support the police department.
No contested votes or amendments were recorded in the minutes for these items; the ordinances introduced were advanced to the Jan. 27 meeting for public hearing and further council action.
