Gilford Planning Board approves daycare conversion, short-term rental and indoor craft fairs

The Gilford Planning Board on Feb. 9 approved an amended site plan to convert a building into a daycare at 359 Hounsell Ave., a Conditional Use Permit for a short-term rental at 19 Upland Dr. limited to 10 overnight guests, and recurring indoor craft fairs at 131 Lake St., all subject to conditions and required permits.
The Gilford Planning Board on Feb. 9 approved three land-use applications, voting unanimously where recorded to allow a daycare conversion, a short-term rental and recurring indoor craft fairs — each subject to required permits and conditions.
Joseph Howard, the property owner, asked to convert a former 2012 manufacturing building at 359 Hounsell Avenue into a daycare, preschool and indoor play place with a proposed 50-by-100-foot outdoor playground. John Ayer, the town’s Director of Planning and Land Use, told the board that the Board of Adjustment had granted a special exception for the use in January. After a brief disclosure by member Jill Mulligan about her relationship with the daycare owner, the board approved the amended site plan and change of use subject to any other federal, state or local approvals that may be required (motion by Carolyn Scattergood; seconded by Jill Mulligan).
