District sets graduation, summer school and meal-distribution dates; tax-levy ballot delayed

Staff member Brad Hunter updated the Henry County R‑1 School District Board of Education on key calendar and program items for late spring and summer.
"Graduation will be held Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 2:00 pm," Mr. Brad Hunter told the board. He also reported the last day of school will be May 21, 2025, and summer school is scheduled to begin May 28 and continue through June 13, 2025.
Mr. Hunter said the Summer Food Service Program paperwork has been finalized and that meals will be distributed every Thursday beginning June 19, 2025, and continuing through August 7, 2025, with distribution at the elementary school circle drive.
On the tax-levy ballot issue, Mr. Hunter reported that a Johnson County judge has not yet made a ruling, citing equal-protection concerns; as a result the district was told the earliest the issue could return to the ballot is November 2025.
