Council approves small water and sewer rate adjustments; typical bill rises about $3.14 per quarter

The Ferrysburg City Council on May 19 approved a resolution updating the city’s water and sewer rates, citing comparators in neighboring Ottawa County communities and recent budgeting work sessions.
City staff said the plan raises the water ready-to-serve charge by $0.95 per quarter, applies a roughly 2% (about $0.02 per cubic meter) increase to the water usage charge, reduces the sewer ready-to-serve charge by $0.54 and leaves the sewer cubic-meter rate unchanged. Craig told the council the net effect for a typical residential customer would be an increase of about $3.14 per quarter.
Council members asked for clarifications about connection fees, which are unchanged from prior years, and staff explained that previously a 50% hookup discount had applied and that discount is being eliminated. After questions about the depth and technical scope of main repairs and whether city crews could perform the work, council approved the resolution by roll call.
The council directed staff to include the changes in utility billing and to continue comparing rates with neighboring municipalities during future budget work sessions.
