Ferrysburg approves MOU with Ottawa County and Grand Haven to coordinate open-space management

Gary Post and Neely Mohawk of Ottawa County Parks presented a memorandum of understanding that would let Ferrysburg, Ottawa County and the City of Grand Haven coordinate management of an open-space corridor adjacent to the Kitchell Lindquist Harker Dunes Preserve and Ottawa Sands Park. Post said the agreement is intended to support collaborative grant applications, invasive-species removal and landscape-level restoration without obligating Ferrysburg to provide funding.
"This agreement has already been signed off by the mayor of Grand Haven, and of course we have strong support from Ottawa County Parks," Post said, and he described hopes for a walking trail that connects nearby preserves. Neely Mohawk, introduced by Post as the county’s coordinator of natural features management, described the parks’ capacity for volunteer restoration and grant-supported planning.
Council members asked whether the MOU would prevent any future sale of the property; Post and Mohawk said the MOU is nonbinding and would not lock Grand Haven into a no-sale position but could build public support for preservation. Council voted to authorize the mayor and city clerk to sign the MOU.
