Bob Sussman, representing the Walkersville Business & Professional Association, updated the commission on local business outreach and upcoming community events, including the Walkersville Community Show set for Sept. 24–26 and the library's trunk-or-treat on Halloween from 6 to 8 p.m.
Sussman described a recent site visit to Pleasant Hill Produce and outlined WBPA efforts to engage businesses with community events, noting WBPA’s role in outreach and support for library activities. He said the trunk-or-treat typically charges a $25 donation per vehicle (a Library fundraiser), is open to businesses and residents, and that organizers usually request a police presence to help control traffic at the entrance for safety.
Sussman also said turnout for the trunk-or-treat historically ranges from about 500–600 attendees, with a record attendance topping 1,000 in a year when other events were canceled. He encouraged businesses and residents to contact the library or WBPA to participate, described WBPA participation in the milkshake contest at the community show, and congratulated Hawkins Landscaping on 50 years in business.
Commissioners added that they would assist with ribbon cuttings for new businesses (a new Elixir Dance and Fitness studio was noted) and discussed aligning spring pop-up market planning with the train schedule and the first Saturday in May to maximize vendor turnout.
The commission received the report; no formal action was taken on the events report during the meeting.
