WBPA updates on trunk-or-treat, library nonprofit status and business outreach plans

Sussman announced trunk-or-treat has one remaining spot and described the WBPA’s entry in the Walkersville Community Show. He encouraged members to promote nearby events and mentioned nominative promotion for Frederick Magazine at the suggestion of a local florist.
Separately, members discussed a plan to interview and feature local businesses on Facebook and to use a questionnaire to collect information. One member said they had reached out to two businesses with no reply and proposed sending the questionnaire to 10 businesses per month to build responses over time. Members also proposed occasional visits to local businesses with a commissioner and citizen volunteers to raise awareness of operations and services.
Public notices: A resident (addressed by the Chair as “Mr. Layman”) announced a Santa event at the Manor House/Heritage Farm Park on Nov. 24 and Dec. 1 sponsored by the Marine Corps League and encouraged attendees to bring food donations for the food bank.
Why it matters: The WBPA’s outreach and promotion efforts target local commerce and civic engagement. Assistance with the Friends of the Library’s nonprofit status could affect programming and fundraising at the library.
Next steps: Sussman asked anyone who can help with the Friends’ 501(c)(3) application to contact him after the meeting; the board agreed to re-send or reissue questionnaires and to coordinate outreach through Crystal and WBPA.
