Ada County approves order dissolving Western Ada Recreation District after voters backed measure

The Ada County Board of Commissioners on July 7 approved an order of dissolution for the Western Ada Recreation District after staff reported results from the recent primary election showing 14,327 votes to dissolve and 3,339 votes to retain the district.
Keith of the clerk's office explained that because the dissolution measure passed the next steps include issuing the order of dissolution, contacting the district to take custody of property and determining how to dispose of assets and cash on hand. Commissioners discussed that the city of Meridian has assumed many of the district's former functions (including facility operations) and that staff would work with the district to determine where any remaining funds should be allocated.
A commissioner moved to approve the order of dissolution; after a second the board approved the motion by voice vote. Commissioners noted the outcome reflects the county's process and voter will; staff were directed to coordinate with district officials and to work through property and cash disposition details.
