Council updates on pickleball courts, water-tower bidding and other local projects
Summary

Council members used the Feb. 11 meeting to update the community on a series of ongoing capital and community projects.
Mayor Cindy Naseman said the Community Improvement Committee approved creating a marketing folder for businesses and residents and is planning a May meet-and-greet luncheon. Naseman also noted the Village splash pad received a beautification award from the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. The housing council’s annual meeting is scheduled for March 3 at 5:30 p.m., and the library kickoff program is set for June 3.
In Old Business the council reported that pickleball courts are currently under construction, with concrete expected to be poured sometime in March; poles and nets will be purchased. Administrator William Kessler said he is preparing bid documents for water tower maintenance and will ask for permission to advertise the work at the next council meeting. The council continues to review options for Commerce Drive.
Council members raised concerns about the condition of the truck stop parking lot and noted there has been no recent communication on the matter; the council also reported no update from the EPA regarding water at the truck stop. Planning Commission members noted potential development of the lot by Subway and will discuss at their March 3 meeting.
On sidewalks, Council member Ken Aselage asked whether a 2026 sidewalk program is planned; Mayor Naseman asked Randy Van Horn to highlight the sidewalk diagram during the meeting. Pavement assessments will be evaluated as part of the planning process. No formal votes were recorded on these projects during the meeting.
