Walkersville authorizes purchase of water meters; DPW briefs commissioners on infrastructure projects

The Walkersville public works director updated commissioners Aug. 28 on water‑system work and routine maintenance and received authorization to purchase replacement equipment.
The director reported that meter replacements are ongoing, that Discovery water main project plans are in final review with Frederick County and other reviewers, and that contractors are working on curb, gutter and sidewalk repairs on Sandstone Drive. Green Street bids are due at town hall Sept. 5.
He requested approval to purchase two vertical turbine meters for the town—acility's reverse‑osmosis racks at a combined cost of $7,583; commissioners moved, seconded and approved the purchase by voice vote. The director said the meters include shipping and that two units were requested to keep one in stock.
He also reported issues with gas‑puncture pumps at the DBW facility that are currently not reliably recording total gallons; staff are awaiting quotes and will likely request repair funds at the next meeting.
Commissioners asked timing questions about delivery; the director estimated meter delivery would take about a week or two. No formal change to project budgets was made at the meeting beyond the authorization to purchase the two meters.
