During public comment on Aug. 14, Walkersville resident Don Shilt raised several community concerns.
Shilt said vehicles without tags have sat on private property since 2019 and asked the town to enforce codes; town staff replied the stored cast-iron park sign was located at the Department of Public Works. He urged the town to consider a local ordinance capping the number of household animals (suggesting six) and called for reinstating a school drug-prevention program in light of regional fentanyl concerns.
Town staff answered that DPW had the sign in storage and that code enforcement and county troopers had previously been engaged on vehicle complaints. The board did not take immediate action but acknowledged the submitted requests and noted the items can be pursued through staff and future agenda items.
What—happens next: Residents who raised the issues can expect staff follow-up; commissioners and staff indicated some requests (e.g., the stored sign) already have identifiable next steps.
