Walkersville authorizes up to $7,000 to revise three MS4 stormwater plans to avoid standing water

Town staff reported Aug. 14 that the engineer working on the town—MS4 projects had been in conversations with state and county agencies and proposed alternative best-management practices (BMPs) that would meet regulatory requirements while avoiding retention ponds with standing water.
Staff said the changes would likely require amendments to existing drawings; the engineering firm Arrow requested $7,000 to update three plan sets (Colony, Glaetown and Deerfield). Staff said the revised BMPs would flow under ground, reduce standing water safety concerns and could require deeper excavation though possibly a smaller surface footprint.
Commissioner Baker moved and Commissioner Gilbert seconded a motion authorizing Arrow to revise the MS4 drawings at a cost not to exceed $7,000. The board approved the motion by voice vote.
What—happens next: Arrow will revise drawings and staff will return with updated plans and, when available, cost estimates for construction and bidding procedures.
