Lake City adopts rules to allow accessory dwelling units across residential zones

The Lake City Council adopted ordinance 2026-2372 on July 7, approving changes to the Land Development Regulations that define and establish standards for accessory dwelling units in multiple residential zoning categories.
City Attorney Martin read the ordinance on second and final reading. The ordinance amends several sections of the LDR—adding a definition for accessory dwelling units and setting provisions and yard requirements across agricultural, single-family, mobile home and multifamily residential sections to accommodate ADUs.
Councilmembers moved and seconded the ordinance on final reading and approved it by roll-call vote. The measure becomes effective in accordance with the ordinance's effective-date language and will be implemented through the city's permitting and planning processes.
City staff said that development standards, site-plan review and applicable permitting steps will govern how ADUs are built and permitted under the new rules.
